The Brazil coach was forced to apologise after provoking outrage with his comments in a press conference on Friday. Brazil boss has caused controversy with some seemingly racist remarks in his side’s pre-match press conference ahead of the Copa América quarter-final against Paraguay on Saturday. He was quoted as saying: “I have taken so much beating that I even sometimes think I am of African descent. They look at me and say: ‘let’s beat him over there’. Without notion, without anything, they say ‘I don’t like him’ and they start beating me.”
He later apologised via a statement on the Brazilian Football Confederation’s website: “I apologize to everyone who might feel offended by my statement about people of African descent. The way I expressed it does not reflect my feelings and opinions.”
