UAE Arabian Gulf League side Al-Nasr SC are set to target former Grêmio loanee Cristian Rodríguez, according to reports.

The National claims that the Dubai based outfit are looking to overhaul their foreign player quota and that Rodríguez, along with former Chile international, Luis Jiménez, and Toluca forward Édgar Benítez, are being monitored as potential new recruits.

Former captain Brett Holman is already set to leave, reportedly to join Emirates Club, while Spaniard Pablo Hernández, midfielder Renan and Senegal international Ibrahima Touré are others who are likely to move on, despite a successful season that saw Al-Nasr win the UAE President’s Cup and finish 5th in the Arabian Gulf League.

Their pursuit of Rodríguez comes on the back of his short loan spell at Grêmio. The 29 year-old joined them in March, but did not actually feature in the Brasileirão, before joining up with Uruguay in May to prepare to compete at the Copa América, where he is part of a side that has reached the quarter-final stage.

Before being loaned to Grêmio, Rodríguez had a similarly short stint at Parma. He made six appearances for them, but was forced to leave due to the club’s ongoing financial insecurities.

His contract with owners Atlético de Madrid runs until June 2016 and given that he was allowed to leave on loan twice, it is possible that he could be secured by Al-Nasr, though whether he is interested in moving to the UAE remains to be seen.
