Brasileirão holders Cruzeiro continued their revival under new Head Coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo with a 3-1 win away at Vasco da Gama.

A strike from midfielder Charles and a Leandro Damião brace secured a third victory in a row for the Belo Horizonte based club, while veteran defender Rodrigo netted a late consolation for Vasco, who are still searching for their first win of the season.

The only other side who are also winless are Joinville. They managed to score just their second goal of the campaign, but still went down 2-1 at high flying Sport Recife, for whom Maikon Leite struck a first half double.

The Leão are currently 3rd in the standings, level on 15 points with Atlético Paranaense. Milton Mendes’ side had won four in a row coming into this round, but were defeated 2-1 at 7th placed Grêmio.

That loss allowed São Paulo to move up in top spot with a 1-0 win at Chapecoense. Midfielder Souza got the only goal of the contest after six minutes, while the home side ended with ten men, due to veteran Neném’s second half dismissal.

In the other two games that took place on Saturday, Flamengo and Corinthians secured victories over Coritiba and Internacional, respectively.

For Coritiba, that was a sixth defeat in a row and leaves them already getting cut adrift at the bottom of the table, alongside Joinville and Vasco.

The team nearest to that group are Santos. They held Atlético Mineiro to a 2-2 draw at Estádio Raimundo Sampaio, but have not won since the opening day of the season.

Elsewhere, Ponte Preta maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign – only Sport can match that – with a 0-0 draw at home to Goiás, Palmeiras beat nine man Fluminense 2-1 and newly-promoted Avaí continued their decent form with a 1-1 draw at home to Figueirense.
