Brazil legend Zico confirmed yesterday that he will stand for FIFA presidency when elections take place in December.
62 year old Zico said that it was “his duty” to stand but insisted that things would have to change at FIFA.
“I can confirm my decision to run for FIFA presidency in the next election. I do feel able. But some rules have to change. Corruption is afflicting our sport and it has to be stamped out. If nothing changes, I will not be a candidate.”
FIFA are set to appoint a new president this Decemeber after Sepp Blatter announced he will step down amidst corruption scandals. FIFA is at the centre of an investigation by the FBI and Swiss police who have already arrested 14 officials on corruption charges.
