Dani Alves has been called up to the Brazil squad for the Copa America after Danilo had to withdraw with an ankle injury.

Alves has not played for Brazil in almost a year with his last appearance coming against Chile in the last 16 of last year’s World Cup. The 32 year old has just signed a new two year deal with Barcelona and will hope to have even more reason to celebrate with a Copa America winners medal this July.

Coach Dunga insists that Dani Alves is a good addition to the squad and is confident he will contribute,
“I’ve worked with Daniel at the last Copa America and the World Cup in 2010. He is an experienced player and is European champion. He has personality and is versatile. One of his highlights is his dynamism in his position and we are lucky to have a job specialist. He will make a difference.”

Danilo is the fourth member of Brazil’s Copa America squad withdraw through injury with Dunga having already lost Luiz Gustavo, Diego Alves and Marcelo from his original list of 23.
