São Paulo defender Rodrigo Caio remains confident of securing a move to Atlético de Madrid, according to reports.

Lance!net, as cited by website Inside Spanish Football, claims that both he and São Paulo expect an agreement to be found with Atlético, despite ongoing problems with the negotiations.

The main point of conflict is said to be São Paulo’s asking price. Atlético believe they are overvaluing Caio and though contact remains between them and his agent, all three parties involved are yet to reach a compromise.

Caio has attempted to push through the deal by refusing to play for São Paulo, but with his contract running until September 2018, he is not in complete control of the stand-off.

Reports suggest that São Paulo may lower their initial valuation and would settle for a fee of around €10 million, plus bonuses, but whether that is enough to satisfy Atlético is unclear.

The summer transfer window does not open until 1st July, so there is plenty of time to negotiate. But with São Paulo currently competing in the Brasileirão, a swift conclusion would surely be preferable.

Caio has featured for them in three of their opening six matches, while he also played in the latter stages of their Copa Libertadores de América campaign.

The 21 year-old, who can play in defensive midfield, as well as at right full-back and centre-back, suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury in 2014 and only returned for São Paulo earlier this year.
