Manchester United are closing in on deal for Internacional midfielder Rodrigo, according to reports.

The Star, as cited by website Squawka, claims that the 20 year-old has impressed United scouts sufficiently enough to tempt them into stepping up their interest.

The suggestion is that manager Louis van Gaal is an admirer of Rodrigo and that a deal could be completed in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Rodrigo’s development at Internacional has been quite staggered. After making his debut in the 2012 Campeonato Gaúcho, he has gone on to feature just eight times for the first-team, outside of the state championship.

In the last two seasons, he didn’t play at all in the Brasileirão, with his only appearance prior to that coming in a 2-2 draw against Sport Recife, back in 2012.

This term he has however, started to come into the fold. In the Copa Libertadores de América, he has played every minute of Internacional’s last six matches, including their knock-out stage victories over Atlético Mineiro and Santa Fe.

The defensive midfielder has been more on the fringes in the opening rounds of the 2015 Brasileirão, but did play 90 minutes in Sunday’s 0-0 draw against São Paulo.

Rodrigo is not the only Internacional player Manchester United are believed to have tracked in recent months. Attacking midfielder Eduardo Sasha has also reportedly been scouted.
