Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi believes the new contract agreed with Lucas Moura is ‘very significant’.
It was announced on Wednesday that the 22 year-old had agreed to extend his deal with PSG until June 2019.
The renewed terms are just reward for Lucas, after a strong season in France. The winger contributed eight goals and seven assists in 46 appearances in all competitions to help PSG to win four major honours, including the Ligue 1 title.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Al-Khelaïfi was eager to point out how important Lucas is to PSG’s future and believes he can be a mainstay for many years to come.
“I think extending Lucas Moura’s contract is a very significant moment,” he said. “He is a forward whose technique and speed have thrilled our supporters since he joined us from São Paulo.
“Young players are very important for our project. Lucas has become a crowd favourite thanks to his talent and also his personality. I am very proud that this, with such a huge potential, will be sporting the Club’s colours in France and in Europe for a long time to come.”
Lucas was signed by PSG from São Paulo for a reported fee of €40 million in January 2013. The Brazil international – capped 31 times since debuting in 2011 – has been left out of Head Coach Dunga’s squad for the Copa América, despite his notable form in France this term.
