Cruzeiro have fired Marcelo Oliveira, the coach who led the team to the Brazilian league titles for the last two seasons, and hired Vanderlei Luxemburgo. The announcement came two days after a 2-1 loss at Figueirense left the club 19th in the league table with only one point. They were also eliminated by River Plate in the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores after a 3-0 loss at Mineirão Stadium. It will be Luxemburgo’s second stint with Cruzeiro. He coached the team for the first time from 2002-04, winning three titles in 2003.
