The president of Brazil’s national football federation has fled Switzerland in the wake of corruption allegations at FIFA.

Marco Polo Del Nero has been the head of CBF since mid April and was in Zurich for the FIFA presidential election. His predecessor, José Maria Marin, was arrested on Wednesday as the FBI continue to crack down on FIFA.

Del Nero’s disappearance may suggest he has something to hide as the US cannot extradite him when he is on Brazilian soil. He left no reason why he suddenly decided to fly back to his native country.

FIFA has been at the centre of a scandal since Wednesday morning when the FBI revealed they have evidence of corruption and bribery. Brazil’s vote in the presidential election may now be given to another representative.
