The former Brazil boss, who led the Seleção to fourth place at World Cup 2014 took over at the Porto Alegre side just one month after departing from his role with the national team.
Having picked up just one point from their opening two games in the Brasileirão, the 66-year-old requested to resign following the 2-0 loss to Coritiba on Saturday. Grêmio’s president confirmed the news in a press conference. He said: “Luiz Felipe Scolari is effectively no longer coach of Grêmio, along with his coaching staff. He asked to resign this morning and I understood that his time and ability to take the club forward had come to an end.”
