Milan could be willing to sell defender Alex as part of a major squad overhaul, according to reports.

Newspaper Tuttosport, as cited by website Football Italia, claims that the veteran Brazilian centre-back is one of a number of players Milan officials are looking selling, as they aim to raise around €100 million to rebuild during the summer transfer window.

Tuttosport claims that the departure of Robinho, plus the likes of Nigel de Jong, Michael Essien, Giampaolo Pazzini, Sulley Muntari, Daniele Bonera and Philippe Mexès could save the club €35 million in wages alone.

Then, Alex, Adil Rami, Michael Agazzi, Cristian Zaccardo, Michelangelo Albertazzi and Cristián Zapata could also be sacrificed to further supplement the transfer kitty.

The hope, according to reports, is that such a serious rebuilding job would help lure Spanish tactician Unai Emery from Sevilla. He, along with Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti and soon to be free agent Jürgen Klopp are believed to be Milan’s top three targets to replace the current incumbent Filippo Inzaghi, who is unlikely to be retained beyond the end of this season.

Moving on Alex would be considered a surprise in some quarters. The 32 year-old only arrived on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in July 2014 and is contracted to Milan until June 2016.

In a difficult season, he has however, featured just 21 times in all competitions and despite starting Milan’s last two Serie A matches, he had played just once in their eight outings prior to that.
