Palmeiras thrashed Sampaio Corrêa 5-1 in the Copa Brasil last night, bringing to an end a run of three games without a win.

Oswaldo De Oliveira’s side had drawn the first leg of their second round tie 1-1 away in São Luis, before losing out to Santos in the Paulistão final and drawing with Atlético Mineiro in the Brazilian Championship’s opening game.

The Verdão’s fortunes looked to be continuing in that vein at the Allianz Parque last night as a Diones goal sent them in 1-0 down at the break.

But a half-time rollocking by De Oliveira’s seemed to do the trick and Victor Hugo equalised for the hosts on 50 minutes, before goals from Jonathan Cristaldo, Kelvin and a Zé Roberto double put the game beyond the reach of Sampaio, giving Palmeiras a much needed and confidence boosting win.
