Queens Park Rangers have confirmed that midfielder Sandro has been blocked from featuring in their Premier League match against Manchester City on Sunday.

The London based club released statement with outlines that Sandro, who was believed to have been selected to start at Etihad Stadium, had issues with his UK Residency Visa and, as such, would not be able to be involved.

“The club can confirm it was informed by the Home Office on Thursday 7th May that there is an issue with Sandro’s UK Residency Visa,” read the Queens Park Rangers statement, as reported by The Guardian’s website.

“The club are working with Sandro and the Home Office to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. While this is ongoing, the club have been advised not to select Sandro for match involvement.”

QPR face Manchester City knowing that only a win will prevent them from being relegated from the Premier League.

The loss of Sandro, who has been ever-present in recent weeks, will hamper manager Chris Ramsey’s chances of securing the victory his side need.

The 26 year-old Brazil international – 17 caps – has featured 17 times for QPR this season, despite a long-term knee problem, and has played in all of their last nine Premier League matches.

The reported €12.6 million signing from Tottenham Hotspur, in September 2014, could now miss the rest of the campaign, if QPR are unable to resolve this issue.
