Report: Beşiktaş consider Palmeiras midfielder Arouca as possible replacement for Atiba HutchinsonCícero (R) of Santos celebrates with Arouca after scoring against Ituano during their Campeonato Paulista match at Estádio Municipal Paulo Machado de Carvalho on 13th April, 2014
Beşiktaş are considering a move for Palmeiras midfielder Arouca, according to reports.
Website Turkish-Football claims that the Spor Toto Süper Lig outfit will scout Arouca in the coming weeks, as they continue to look for a replacement for veteran Atiba Hutchinson, who is expected to sign for Toronto FC, after rejecting a new contract.
Arouca only signed with Palmeiras on a free transfer from Santos in January, but reports suggest he has a clause in his contract, which expires in December 2018, which states he can move to Europe at a cut-price.
The 28 year-old will be competing for a starting berth under Head Coach Oswaldo de Oliveira when the 2015 Brasileirão season kicks-off later this month, though the opportunity to move to Europe may be too good to refuse.
To date, Arouca has spent all his career in Brazil. He started out with Fluminense, where he won the 2005 Campeonato Carioca and 2007 Copa do Brasil, before moving on to São Paulo for a reported fee of €290,000 in January 2009.
He would go on to make just 24 appearances for the Soberano, however and eventually moved on to Santos - initially on loan [July 2010] and then outright for a reported fee of €3.5 million in August 2010.
Arouca enjoyed the most successful spell of his career to date with the Peixe. He made over 170 appearances for them and won numerous major honours, including the 2011 Copa Libertadores de América.
During his time with Santos, Arouca was also named in the Campeonato Paulista Team of the year in 2010 and 2014, while this season he has been including on the back of some strong performances for Palmeiras.
