Utility player Rômulo has returned to training with Juventus following a lengthy spell out injured.

The Pelotas native, who has chosen to represent Italy at international level, has featured for just 100 minutes in three appearances across all competitions this season.

He last played in Juventus’ 7-0 win over Parma in November and after being an unused substitute the following week in a 3-0 victory at Lazio, he’s been out since.

Rômulo, 27, is on loan at Juventus until June from Hellas Verona. The latter signed him from Fiorentina last summer for a reported fee of €3.5 million, after a successful loan spell that saw him score six goals in 33 appearances and earned a place in Italy’s preliminary squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

After joining Verona permanently, he was immediately loaned to Juventus, who have an option to purchase him outright for €6 million.

That deal, given Rômulo’s injury problems, is unlikely to happen, even if his agent, Alex Firmino, was hopeful that a compromise might be reached when speaking in March.

The aim now for Rômulo will be to return to full fitness and secure some playing time. With Juventus on the brink of securing a fourth consecutive Serie A title and with a UEFA Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid to focus on, he may feature in the closing rounds of their domestic campaign.
