Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho and Chelsea forward Diego Costa  have been named in the Professional Footballers’ Association Team of the Year.

The duo were voted into the eleven man XI by their fellow peers and are the first Brazilians to be selected since current Internazionale Assistant Coach Sylvinho, who was chosen in the 2000/01 season after a strong year with Arsenal.

Coutinho has earned his place in the XI with a campaign that has seen him grow into one of Liverpool’s most important players.

The 22 year-old, who was signed from Internazionale for a reported fee of €10 million in January 2013, has scored four goals and provided four assists in 30 Premier League appearances this season.

Costa has also impressed in what is his maiden campaign in England. The 26 year-old Spain international has netted 19 times in 24 matches and also contributed three assists.

His stats would perhaps be more impressive, but he has been hampered by a recurring hamstring injury and a three match suspension since arriving from Atlético de Madrid for a reported fee of €38 million last July.

2014/15 Professional Footballers’ Association Team of the Year: David de Gea (Manchester United; Branislav Ivanović (Chelsea), John Terry (Chelsea), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Ryan Bertrand (Southampton); Alexis Sánchez (Arsenal), Nemanja Matić (Chelsea), Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool), Eden Hazard (Chelsea); Diego Costa (Chelsea), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)
