Grêmio President Romildo Bolzan Junior has admitted he is willing to wait to decide midfielder Cristian Rodríguez’s future.

The Uruguay international – capped 83 times – is contracted to Grêmio until the end of June and with the 2015 Copa América set to commence from 11th June until 4th July, he will likely only be available for the opening rounds of the 2015 Brasileirão, assuming he is selected for international duty.

Rodríguez is currently owned by Atlético de Madrid and is on loan at Grêmio – an arrangement that could be extended according to Bolzan Junior, though he is no rush to make a definitive decision at this stage.

“He is a player who was in Europe and plays regularly for the Uruguayan national team but we are not going to speak about that (a new contract) now,” he told Terra, as reported by website Xinuanet.

Rodríguez joined Grêmio in March after a short stint with Parma. The 29 year-old had signed with them in January on loan, but moved on after making six appearances, due to their increased financial difficulties.

That switch to Parma brought to an end his lengthy run at Atlético de Madrid. He was signed by them from FC Porto in July 2012 on a free transfer and scored five goals in 97 appearances, as well as winning four major honours.

During his time at Porto, he was even more successful, winning ten honours, whilst he also lifted trophies with Paris Saint-Germain and Peñarol earlier in his career.
