Botafogo Head Coach René Simões is hopeful of securing an agreement with veteran midfielder Daniel Carvalho.

The 32 year-old, who has been without a club since leaving Criciúma in October 2013, has been training with Botafogo and is expected to sign a deal to stay with them until December.

Speaking last week, Simões stated that he would like Carvalho to be available for their match against Capivariano on 29th April, though conceded that he will need time to find full fitness.

“I hope he [Carvalho] will be available for our next Copa do Brasil match [against Capivariano on April 29]," he told Lancenet, as reported by website Xinhuanet.

“He trained today with the team and physically he is ready. It"s going to take a while before he is ready to play 90 minutes but we are going to ease him into it."

Carvalho’s likely arrival at Botafogo comes just ahead of the start of the 2015 Campeonato Brasileiro Série B.

The Fogão will be looking to return to the Brasileirão at the first attempt after being relegated last season and will hope Carvalho’s experience can aid their push for promotion.

The Pelotas native was capped three times by Brazil in 2006 and won major honours with Internacional and Palmeiras earlier in his career.

His most prominent spell was arguably with CSKA Moscow, who he joined in January 2004 from Internacional for a reported fee of €4.2 million, and went on to win ten major honours with, including the 2005 UEFA Cup.
