Gabriel Paulista looks set to gain regular football for Arsenal after Per Mertesacker’s injury in their FA Cup semi final win at the weekend.
Paulista replaced Mertesacker after 63 minutes after the big German injured his foot. At first people thought Mertesacker had damaged his back again but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger explained after the match.
“Ankle,” Wenger responded when asked about the nature of Mertesacker’s problem. “He limps badly so it doesn’t look too good.”
Despite his success at Arsenal Paulista still has a soft spot for his old club Villarreal and was spotted at their game against Cordoba on Sunday.
