Midfielder Fernando was pleased that Manchester City were able to return to winning ways with Sunday’s victory against West Ham United at Etihad Stadium.

An own goal from James Collins and a Sergio Agüero strike gave Manuel Pellegrini’s side a 2-0 win that keeps them in 4th place in the Premier League.

City had come into the game on the back of consecutive defeats to Crystal Palace and rivals Manchester United.

For Fernando, their win over West Ham was the perfect response to that mini crisis and he believes they are now set up to have a strong end to the season.

“We went through really tough moments but now we are back to winning,” he said, as reported by Sky Sports. “It was really important to get a victory and now we want to keep form and make sure we try to win the next five matches.

“We know the season has not gone as well as we would have liked but now it is important for us to focus on the last five matches and make sure we get good results from them.”

Fernando has been a regular for Manchester City this season. The 27 year-old, who was signed from FC Porto for a reported fee of €15 million, has made 30 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice.
