Palmeiras defeated rivals Corinthians 6-5 on penalties following a 2-2 draw at the Itaquerão stadium yesterday in their Paulistão semi-final second leg tie.

Victor Ramos’s driven finish after the ball dropped loose from a corner gave visitors Palmeiras an early lead before Danilo headed in Jadson’s free-kick to level for the hosts after 34 minutes.

And one minute before half time Colombian forward Stiven Mendoza sent the home fans wild with a 25-yard thunderbolt to put Corinthians 2-1 up.

But with 15 minutes left Rafael Marques snuck in at the back post to equalise for the Verdão and send the game to penalties.

Both teams scored four of their initial five kicks, but as the shootout entered sudden-death Petros saw his kick saved by Fernando Prass after Jackson had converted for Palmeiras, sending the visiting spectators into raptures and Palmeiras into the final where they will meet Santos.
