Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has admitted that modern technology means young players have less space and privacy than his generation did.

Last week a photo emerged of his team mate Raheem Sterling inhaling nitrous oxide, following on from his being caught out smoking a shisha pipe along with team mate Jordan Ibe.

“Ten years ago a young player would have more space,” Lucas told the Liverpool Echo.

“Today we go to a restaurant and everyone is filming, recording or taking pictures and you need to have extra care. There are a lot of people out there who are not willing to help you and make headlines.

“You can go out but you have to be careful because if you are having a glass of wine, then people say you are drunk.

“That is different. Unless you can prove that, it is all over. You have to be careful and live in the right way.”
