Napoli are tracking Cruzeiro defender Mayke, according to reports.

The website of respected Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the Serie A outfit are considering making a move in the summer transfer window.

Napoli’s interest in Mayke stems from uncertainty over the future of veteran full-back Christian Maggio.

The 33 year-old, who has made over 250 appearances for the club, is out of contract in June and, as yet, has not agreed an extension.

Signing Mayke as a replacement would give Napoli a potential long-term alternative to the former Italy international.

The 22 year-old is contracted to Cruzeiro until December 2016 and has featured regularly during their back to back Brasileirão victories.

In the 2013 campaign, he featured 22 times, scoring twice, while last term he played 30 matches and provided eight assists.

This season, he has started four out of five of Cruzeiro’s Copa Libertadores matches, with the Raposa positioned in 2nd in Group 3 with one game to go.

Securing Mayke from Cruzeiro might not be a straightforward transaction. The Brasileirão holders have already lost Ricardo Goulart [Guangzhou Evergrande], Everton Ribeiro [Al Ahli Club] and Lucas Silva [Real Madrid] from their title winning side and would be loathed to sell another player who has featured regularly in their recent successes.
