Wellington Silva has been granted Spanish citizenship, meaning he will finally be able to play for Arsenal – four years after joining the club.

Silva arrived from Fluminense for £3.5 million in 2011, but was not granted a UK work permit and has been on loan at five different Spanish clubs since, biding his time until he became eligible for Spanish citizenship.

The striker, who is currently on loan at Almeria, tweeted: ‘The good thing is slow in coming, but arrives with the greatest satisfaction in the world’.
