Corinthians have turned down an approach from Roma for teenage forward Malcom, according to reports.

Sky Sport Italia, as cited by website Forza Italian Football, claims that the Serie A outfit made a move to try and secure the 18 year-old ahead of a possible bidding war between a number of European clubs in the summer transfer window, but were quickly rebuffed.

Malcom is considered to be one of Brazil’s brightest young prospects and after being compared to Neymar, has been strongly linked with the likes of Barcelona and Chelsea.

With the São Paulo native now established in the Corinthians first-team – he has scored twice in 22 appearances – and a part of Brazil’s under-20 setup, his stock is already high. But with his contract expiring in May 2016, it is possible that he could be cashed in on in the coming months.

Roma had perhaps moved early to avoid being priced out of a move at a later date, but may also have been motivated by their successful purchase of Marquinhos from Corinthians in August 2012.

The now Brazil international – capped four times – was secured on a deal worth around just €7.2 million and eventually sold on to Paris Saint-Germain for a reported fee of €31.4 million in July 2013.
