São Paulo are ready to make a surprise bid for veteran Lazio forward Miroslav Klose, according to reports.

La Gazzetta dello Sport, as cited by website Forza Italian Football, claims that the Brasileirão outfit, who are currently without a Head Coach, could pursue Klose if he becomes available on a free transfer.

The 36 year-old is currently contracted to Lazio until June and though reports suggest both he and Biancocelesti officials have an agreement for a renewal in place, Klose is believed to be stalling.

The former Germany international – capped 137 times – was frustrated at being rotated with Serbian forward Filip Đorđević earlier in the season, but after he suffered a malleolar fracture in January, Klose has come to the fore and has now netted 13 times in 32 appearances this term, including five goals in his last six Serie A outings.

Part of the reason why Klose may be delaying signing is to ensure he gets guarantees over playing time for next season and with reported interest from clubs in Major League Soccer and the Bundesliga, plus seemingly São Paulo, he would certainly get that elsewhere.

If Klose does chose to stay at Lazio, where he has won the 2012-13 Coppa Italia, it will be his fifth season with the club since arriving from Bayern Munich on a free transfer in July 2011, though a move to Brazil would take him back to the scene of Germany’s 2014 FIFA World Cup victory.
