Orlando City SC manager Adrian Heath has admitted his side were fortunate when Kaká was allowed to retake his missed penalty in their 2-0 win over Portland Timbers.

With the Lions leading at Providence Park through Cyle Larin’s 30th minute strike, forward Carlos Rivas was fouled in the penalty area by Portland goalkeeper Adam Larsen Kwarasey.

Kaká stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick, but saw his initial effort saved, only for referee Kevin Scott to order a retake due to encroachment from two Portland players.

Kaká would then dispatch his second attempt to put Orlando 2-0 ahead and secure the three points, though speaking after the match, Heath conceded that the Brazilian was fortunate to be given the chance to rectify his miss.

“For once, we might have got a bit of good fortune with the penalty,” he said, as reported by website mlssoccer. “You won’t always see that given but we were overdue something like that and it was something we spoke about in the lead-up to the game. These things do even out over a season and we saw that today.”

That penalty takes Kaká’s tally for the season to three goals in six appearances, while Orlando are now 3rd in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference, with eight points from six matches.
