Lazio midfielder Felipe Anderson has hailed the role Head Coach Stefano Pioli has played in his development this season.

The 21 year-old scored in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Empoli to take his tally for the campaign to eleven goals in 28 appearances and help Lazio move into 2nd place in Serie A.

Last season, Anderson’s first in Italy after arriving from Santos for a reported fee of €7.5 million in July 2013, was more frustrating for the youngster and he managed just one goal in 20 matches.

His much improved form this season has coincided with an outstanding campaign for Lazio so far as a whole and Anderson believes Pioli, who was appointed at the start of the campaign, is responsibility for both his and the Biancocelesti’s rise.

“I have grown here and changed my personality,” he told Brazilian newspaper O Globo, as reported by website Football Italia.

“I’ve learned to confront problems and Pioli gave me the chance to show who I really am. His calmness and trust in me have allowed me to integrate myself during this season.

“Pioli always tells me that I have to keep improving. At the start of the season I wasn’t in the starting line-up, but he always kept me in consideration.

“Little by little I earned my place. I owe a lot to Pioli and to the club.”

Anderson’s outstanding form this season has seen him linked with the likes of Manchester United. The Brasília native has however, been tied down on a new contract until June 2020 in a bid to secure his immediate future.
