Atlético de Madrid defender Miranda has conceded that Real Madrid are “probably the best in the world.”

The Brazil international – capped 13 times – will hope to be involved when Atlético face their city rivals in their upcoming UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clashes and though he is aware of Real’s strength, he remains confident that they can progress.

“They will be two tough games. Real Madrid have a really strong team and right now they are probably the best in the world,” he told Estadão, as reported by Football Espana.

“However, they are not unbeatable. We have a very competitive side and we’ve faced them six teams already this season and not lost.”

Miranda was part of the Atlético side that lost agonisingly against Real in last season’s UEFA Champions League Final.

The 30 year-old, who was signed from São Paulo on a free transfer in July 2011, has come under pressure from Uruguay international José Giménez for his starting berth alongside Diego Godín this season, but still remains a key part of Head Coach Diego Simeone’s plans.

In all competitions, he has featured 28 times so far this term, scoring three goals, while he also played the full 90 minutes of Atlético’s most recent tie with Real – a 2-2 draw in the second leg of their Copa del Rey Round of 16 tie in January.
