Fluminense’s Fred condemned the Rio de Janeiro state football association and championships after he saw red during the first half of Saturday’s Fla-Flu derby.

Fred was sent off after 30 minutes for a second bookable offence in a game which Fluminense lost 3-0 to their arch-rivals.

"The Carioca [state championship] has to end," a furious Fred told pitchside reporters at the Maracanã.

"Finish the Campeonato Carioca. Let’s play a Rio-São Paulo championship, a championship of the South and Rio de Janeiro. While it is in this shameful state, Rio De Janeiro football has to end. It’s unacceptable."
