Manchester United right back Rafael is fighting for his long term future at the club after limited playing time this season.

The 24 year old has only played 11 times in all competitions for United and may be deemed surplus to requirements if he can’t build on that number before this summer.

Rafael has spent a significant part of this year out injured after fracturing his cheekbone in the FA Cup game against Yeovil in January. United manager Louis Van Gaal praised the Brazilians attitude following the game but since his return he has hardly kicked a ball.

Midfielder Antonio Valencia has played in the right back position for most of the season and if there are any new defenders recruited this summer then Rafael may well be on his way.
