Sampdoria forward Eder believes its “nonsense” to criticise his call up to the Italy national team.

The 28 year-old, who was born in Brazil but has an Italian great-grandftather, insists their should be no issue with him representing Italy and cites France and Germany as examples of nations that are more relaxed about who they select.

“I think it’s really nonsense,” he said, as reported by Brazilian paper Diario Catarinense. “In Germany there are players who come from other countries, as there are in France, a country represented by several African players.

“Here there isn’t that type of culture. But there’s a new Coach and he gets to make the decisions.”
