Agent Eugenio Ascari has defended the decision to select Brazilian-born forward Eder for the Italy national team.

The 27 year-old, who is owned by Sampdoria, has attracted some criticism for his inclusion, but Ascari believes he is worthy of his place.

"I think it’s an unnecessary controversy," the agent told Tuttomercatoweb.

"Eder and Vazquez have been called, just as [Mauro] Camoranesi, a World Cup winner in 2006, [Dani] Osvaldo and [Jose] Altafini in the 70s were before them.

"Over the past decade the CT has cast his net everywhere, that’s globalisation. Look at Germany for example, their squad is filled with player of foreign origin.

"In Italy we’re having a controversy about two oriundo players: Eder has Venetian roots, as does Vazquez."
