The versatile 40-year-old Brazilian who currently plays for Palmeiras, shared his memories of the Copa América.
Zé Roberto was talking exclusively to the official website of the tournament and was quoted: “My greatest memory of the 1997 Copa América was the goal in the final. The main difficulty, without a doubt, was the altitude. Playing there was very tough, especially as Bolivia played at home and we faced them in the final. We came through a lot of obstacles to win that title. 1999 Copa América in Paraguay? It was a difficult tournament as Argentina and Uruguay had good teams. But we were really united as well and just kept getting better. The duo of Ronaldo and Rivaldo were in a very good phase. For me, it was great to be a two-time champion of such an important tournament.”
“The secret to playing well at 40 is taking care off the field and giving your maximum on a daily basis. Of course, my genes have helped, but I am where I am because of my dedication. I am very happy with my start at Palmeiras.”
