Barcelona forward Neymar will eventually overtake football legend Pelé as Brazil’s top scorer of all-time claims Romário.

Neymar, who turned 23 last month, has scored 42 goals in 60 appearances for the Seleção. Pelé meanwhile tops the goal scoring list on 77 goals and is followed by Ronaldo on 62, Romário on 55 and Zico on 48. At club level, Neymar overtook Romário’s personal record with Barça at the start of this month, reaching the 40-goal mark. Romário says that he wasn’t sad when Neymar edged past him in the club’s all-time ranking: “Not at all. Everything has it’s time and place. I made my mark during my era at Barça, now it’s Neymar’s turn. I think, because of his age, he will go on to break a lot of records; he’ll overtake Pelé to become the top scorer in the history of the Brazilian national team. You only need to consider the goals he has already scored for Brazil and how many years he has left at international level.”
