Atlético de Madrid owned midfielder Cristian Rodríguez has arrived in Brazil after agreeing to join Grêmio on loan.

The Uruguay international – capped 83 times – was reportedly greeted by hundreds of fans when he arrived at Porto Alegre airport on Tuesday and will remain with Grêmio until June.

Rodríguez had initially moved to Parma on loan in January, but with the Serie A struggling financially and facing an uncertain short-term future, he has decided to terminate that agreement.

Rodríguez made six appearances during his spell at Parma and was sent off in his final outing – a 0-0 draw with Atalanta.

The 29 year-old will now hope to have more stability with Grêmio, as he looks to find form and match fitness to secure a place in Head Coach Óscar Tabárez’s Uruguay squad for the 2015 Copa América.

Rodríguez has been selected for their latest match, a friendly against Morocco at the end of this month, and is one of three Brazil-based players in the squad, alongside Cruzeiro’s Giorgian De Arrascaeta and Vasco da Gama goalkeeper Martín Silva.
