Flamengo took a massive step towards the last 32 of the Copa do Brasil after beating Brasil de Pelotas 2-1 this morning.

Brasil de Pelotas are set to compete in Série C this season after only being promoted from Série D in second place last season. Despite this they put up a terrific battling performance throughout.

Alecsandro gave Flamengo the lead in the 30th minute and Para doubled the away side’s lead 15 minutes from time.

The rules of the competition state that if the away side wins the first leg by two or more goals then a second leg is not needed. Nena denied Flamengo a rest on the date of the second leg by scoring with virtually the last kick of the game to half the deficit.

In this morning’s other game ASA defeated São Raimundo 3-1 away from home.
