Paris Saint-Germain are ready to offer defender Marquinhos a new deal to deter possible interest from Manchester United, according to reports.

The Express, citing sources in France, claims that PSG are ready to respond to suggestions that the Red Devils’ manager Louis van Gaal will table a €22 million bid for the 20 year-old in the summer transfer window, by opening negotiations for a renewed contract.

Marquinhos’ current agreement with PSG runs until June 2018. The Brazil international – capped four times – has not always been a regular since arriving from Roma for a reported fee of €31.4 million in July 2013, and has again featured inconsistently this term.

The São Paulo native has made 25 appearances so far in all competitions, which is seven less than he managed last season.

With manager Laurent Blanc preferring David Luiz and Thiago Silva as his first choice central defensive partnership and Gregory van der Wiel and Serge Aurier to compete with at right full-back, it is conceivable that Marquinhos may be tempted at the prospect of more regular first-team football at Manchester United.

Given their investment in him and his potential to be a long-term mainstay for PSG however, it seems they are keen to avoid him getting drawn away to England.
