Fiorentina are considering a move for Santos forward Gabriel Barbosa, according to reports.

Globoesporte, as cited by Calciomercato and Football Italia, claims that La Viola are scouting Gabriel, ahead of possibly making a bid in the summer transfer window.

With around €31 million recouped from the sale of Juan Cuadrado to Chelsea earlier this month, Fiorentina would have the finances to put together a suitable offer for Gabriel.

Alessandro Diamanti and Mohamed Salah have been brought in on loan from Guangzhou Evergrande and Chelsea respectively to cover the loss of Cuadrado for the immediate future, but Gabriel would represent a longer-term replacement.

The 18 year-old was part of the Brazil under-20 side that finished 4th at the recent South American Youth Championship and is growing into an increasingly prominent player for Santos.

In the 2014 Brasileirão, he scored eight goals and provided four assists in 31 appearances, while he missed just one of Santos’ final ten matches of the season.

Gabriel’s contract at the Santástico runs until September 2019 and with reported interest from Barcelona, it will likely not be easy for Fiorentina to find an agreement, even if they seemingly possess the necessary finances.
