Neymar continues to score goals week in week out for Barcelona this season and many fans say he is coming close to Diego Maradona’s level at the club.

Maradona played at Barcelona for two years from 1982 to 1984. During this time he scored 38 goals and averaged 0.65 goals a game. Neymar has recently equalled that tally and could surpass it against Villarreal tonight.

Maradona fans will argue that Neymar’s stike rate is less impressive at 0.56 goals per game but Sport reporter San Antonio insists Neymar can play a larger role for the club.

“Comparing Neymar and Maradona is crazy and does not benefit at all Neymar. But I am convinced that it will be much more important to Barcelona than was Maradona, who had a serious injury (fractured left ankle) and hepatitis during his time at the club.”
