The new board have decided to give a pay rise to some of their key players, in order to avoid another scenario like Ganso"s departure in 2012.
After a knee injury in 2010, Ganso had asked the club"s board to increase his salary but his demands were not met by the club. Ganso felt unvalued at Santos and after two years of unsuccessful negotiations between the parties, Ganso opted to leave the club for rivals São Paulo. To avoid another scenario like that, even in deep financial crisis, Santos have decided to increase the wages of players like Lucas Lima, Alison, Geuvânio and Gustavo Henrique. Geuvânio was quoted in Globo Esporte: “I had a conversation with Dagoberto [executive director] and he decided to give me a pay rise. I"m glad my work has been recognized, I hope to repay with goals, assists and wins for Santos."
