Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho is hopeful of securing his debut Wembley Stadium appearance with a victory over Chelsea.

Brendan Rodgers’ side face the Blues in the First leg of their Football League Cup Semi-final at Anfield on Tuesday and though Coutinho expects a tough contest, he is confident they can progress through to his first Wembley Final.

“I’ve never played at Wembley and it’s always been an ambition of mine to play there,” he told the ECHO.

“It would be so special to walk out there for the first time in a Cup final.

“Everyone is excited about the prospect of playing at Wembley and we want to take this opportunity.

“Chelsea are a great side who are very difficult to play against but we’re in good form and we want to get through. We all want to lift that trophy.”

Liverpool have beaten Middlesbrough, Swansea City and Bournemouth to reach this stage of the competition and, should they progress, will face either Tottenham Hotspur or Sheffield United in the Final.

If Coutinho features against Chelsea, it will be his third appearance in the 2014/15 Football League Cup. The reported €10 million signing from Internazionale (January 2013) has featured 27 times in all competitions so far this season, scoring twice.
