Barcelona have confirmed that defender Douglas will be out for “three to four weeks" due to a thigh strain.

The 24 year-old was left out of the squad that played away to Deportivo – a 4-0 win – on Sunday and is now set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

"Brazilian defender Douglas has suffered a thigh strain in training on Sunday and will be out of action for three to four weeks, meaning he will sit out both cup matches [Copa del Rey] against Atlético [de] Madrid and the next two [La] Liga matches as well," read a statement on Barcelona’s official website.

As well as the Copa del Rey Quarter-final First and Second leg’s against Atlético, Douglas will also miss the La Liga tie’s away to Elche, at home to Villarreal and possibly the trip to Athletic Club.

The timing of this injury is a blow to Douglas, who has had some playing time in the Copa del Rey. The reported €4 million signing from São Paulo [August 2014] has made just four appearances in all competitions so far this season, but with fixtures beginning to pile up for Barcelona, he may have featured in the games against Atlético or some of the surrounding matches.
