Flamengo could be set rival Palmeiras’ bid for want away Santos midfielder Arouca, according to reports.

Website China, citing Lancenet, claims that the 28 year-old is launching legal action against Santos due to unpaid wages and could soon be allowed to have his contract, which is due to expire in December 2016, terminated.

Such an occurrence would make him a free agent and an attractive proposition to a number of clubs.

Palmeiras, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, were believed to be the frontrunners to secure Arouca if he becomes available, but will now seemingly face competition from Flamengo.

The Rubro-Negro are considered a potentially more attractive proposition for Arouca, due to his family ties in Rio de Janeiro, while Palmeiras are a strong rival of Santos and a switch to them could cause controversy for the Brazil international.
