Rafael is expected to be out for several weeks after fracturing his cheekbone but received praise from Louis Van Gaal for playing through the injury.

Manchester United’s 24 year old defender injured his face in the first half of their 2-0 win against Yeovil, but persevered until half time. Manager Van Gaal was quick to highlight the Brazilian’s hunger and attitude.

Rafael has an injury, a fracture of his bone. So it was fantastic that he had the guts that he could play through but I had to change him.
“He played through the pain because in the last few weeks he hasn’t played much but he now can play he is injured.
“He has a fantastic mentality Rafa, he is unbelievable.
