Corinthians have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with former Fenerbahçe midfielder Cristian Baroni.

The 31 year-old has been a free agent since leaving the Spor Toto Süper Lig outfit in August 2014 and had been widely expected to sign with Corinthians for some time.

The deal, which is believed to be worth €1.5 million per season, was announced by Corinthians on their official Twitter account on Saturday.

Cristian first played for the Timão between September 2008 and July 2009. During that period, he was part of a side that won the 2008 Brasileirão Série B and subsequently the Campeonato Paulista and Copa do Brasil in 2009.

He was eventually snapped up by Fenerbahçe for a reported fee of €7 million and went on to have five successful seasons in Turkey, where he won six major honours, including two Spor Toto Süper Lig titles.

Cristian returns to a Corinthians side that finished 4th in the 2014 Brasileirão and thus will compete in this year’s Copa Libertadores.

Head Coach Tite, who lead them to victory at the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup amongst others honours, has also rejoined for a third spell.
