Former Real Madrid forward Iván Zamorano is looking forward to a competitive 2015 Copa América.

The 47 year-old, who was part of the draw ceremony, believes that the South American nations demonstrated at the 2014 FIFA World Cup how strong they currently are and is confident that will make for a memorable tournament in Chile across June and July.

“I think it will be an extraordinary Copa América,” he told website ca2015.

“There will be six teams that were in the World Cup – but they were not just participants, they were also main characters.”

Zamorano represented Chile at four Copa América tournaments during his time as a player, but never won it. Indeed, La Roja have failed to ever win the tournament and haven’t reached the final since 1987.

Despite this record however, Zamorano believes the current crop of Chilean players are better placed than ever to win it on home soil.

“I see a big chance when a lot of Chile’s players are with the most important teams of the world,” he continued.

“That has never happened. There always have been two or three players in the most important leagues, but not now.

“This team has the experience to do it.”

Chile have been drawn alongside Mexico, Ecuador and Bolivia in Group A, while Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Jamaica make up Group B, with Brazil facing Colombia, Peru and Venezuela in Group C.

Chile open the tournament against Ecuador at Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos on 11th June.
