Cruzeiro midfielder Lucas Silva has insisted that he would not force through a move to Real Madrid.

The 21 year-old, who has been nominated for the 2014 South American Footballer of the Year, is believed to be a target for Real and the UEFA Champions League holders are widely expected to firm up their interest in the January transfer window.

With the possibility of a switch to Los Blancos a potential distraction, Lucas insists that he is firmly focused on Cruzeiro and denies that he will push to make the deal happen.

“I am expected back in work next month; there have been a lot of rumours and speculation regarding a possible move to Real Madrid,” he told Globoesporte, as reported by Goal. “The winter transfer window isn’t open in Europe until January but once the market opens, anything can happen.

“I have my own objectives and challenges. It would be a dream and a step forward in my career.

“We would have to reach an agreement which benefits me and Cruzeiro but I am happy where I am. I am in a marvellous team and I want to continue making history.”

Lucas has come to prominence over the past seasons by playing a key role in Cruzeiro’s back to back Brasileirão title victories. The Bom Jesus de Goiás native, who was voted into the Championship Squad, also won the Campeonato Mineiro with a Raposa this year and the Toulon Tournament with Brazil’s under-20 side.
