Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has denied that he could return to former club Grêmio in the January transfer window.

The 27 year-old has been linked with a move away from Anfield after making just 15 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

With a place in Head Coach Dunga’s Brazil squad for the 2015 Copa América to aim for, Lucas could be tempted to look elsewhere. The Dourados native insists however, that if he does leave, it will not be for Grêmio or, seemingly, Napoli.

“Everyone knows that Napoli tried last summer, but now they are not showing interest,” he told Show dos Esportes, as reported by website Inside Futbol.

“My future? I don’t know. The only thing I can say is that I won’t return to Grêmio.”

Liverpool signed Lucas from Grêmio for a reported fee of €10 million in July 2007. The Brazil international – capped 24 times – won the Campeonato Gaúcho with Imortal and was also named the 2006 Bola de Ouro by Brazilian magazine Placar.

At Liverpool, Lucas has made over 250 appearances and lifted the 2012 League Cup.
